Machaerus Excavations and Surveys

According to Josephus (Ant. 18.109-119), John the Baptist was executed at Machaerus, a fortress in the borderlands of Perea, ruled by Herod Antipas, and the Nabatean kingdom. This is why the fortress interests me since as you may know I find the Baptist to be quite an important figure. The Machaerus Excavations and Surveys (directed by Győző Vörös) have provided an update on their archaeological work for BAR that can read previewed here (the article can be read in the magazine or online with a subscription).
