Tomorrow will be my first time celebrating All Saints' Day as part of the United Methodist Church. I anticipate a day where we remember the departed saints. There have been several deaths in our and around our local congregation at La Trinidad this year, so I'm sure it will be an emotional day.
This weekend is also the celebration of Día de los Muertos here in San Antonio. This celebration has distinctly Latin@ American roots and it honors the departed as well. During this season there can be some confusion between Halloween, All Saints' Day, All Souls' Day, and Día de los Muertos. They're not the same and they're not all celebrated by the same people. Greg Garrison's "What's the difference between Halloween, All Saints' Day, All Souls' Day and Days of the Dead?" is helpful for differentiating. I hope everyone has meaningful (and when necessary, "safe") times of celebration!
